CBTU Leonard C Ball, James H Bell, and Ronald Reliford Scholarship Fund.
Each year CBTU awards ten scholarships to high school and college students in the names of three men who exemplified union activism and a thirst for knowledge. The Leonard C. Ball, James H. Bell, and Ronald Reliford Scholarship Fund was established to honor the late Leonard Ball, the first Executive Director of CBTU and the top aide to AFSCME International Secretary-Treasurer William Lucy, the late Jim Bell, President of the New York Chapter of CBTU and a major force in city politics, and the late Ronald Reliford, Chief Sargent-at-Arms of CBTU and Field Director for AFSCME.
Ten recipients will receive a minimum of $2,000 each.
Only Undergraduate students are
eligible to apply.
Qualifying students:
Must have written evidence of acceptance and or attendance at an accredited college/university.
College Student must have a "C" average GPA among other criteria. This will be a determining factor in the selection process.
Among other requirements, students must submit a typewritten essay of no less than 300 words, subject as follows,
Freshman year students essay subject: Why should Young People get Involved in Politics?
Sophomore year students essay subject: Leadership and Services, What does it Mean? In addition include in your essay an example of your Leadership and Service.
Junior year students essay subject: Valuing our Vote
Senior year students essay subject: A College Education, Provides Me Choices.
